Accident

An accident is ‘an unwanted, unplanned event which results in a loss of some kind’.

The few examples of accidents are:
  • A person tripping over an uneven surface and breaking their leg.
  • Falls from height: death, broken bones.
  • Slips trips falls: sprains, broken bones.
  • Struck by vehicles: death, crush injuries.
  • Struck by an object: crush injuries.
  • Electrical: burns, heart problems.
  • Crushed by a moving part of a machine: broken bones, amputation.

Occupational accident -­ an occurrence arising out of or in the course of work that results in a fatal or non-­fatal occupational injury;

Occupational injury -­death, any personal injury or disease resulting from an occupational accident;
Commuting (travel) accident -­an accident resulting in occupational injury involving loss of working time occurring on the direct way between the place of work and: the worker’s principal or secondary residence; the place where the worker usually takes his / her meals; or the place where the worker usually receives his / her remuneration.
