Source of Information on National Standards

Large quantity of information is available on health & safety which needs to be consulted time to time. There are two main sources of information available inside & outside the organisation. The employers has to provide all the information like workplace risks & it control, emergency procedures, name of competent person, and the risk from 3rd parties to its employees.

The Internal Source of Information:

  • Company Policies. 
  • Risk Assessment. 
  • Inspection reports. 
  • Medical records. 
  • Accident records. 
  • Maintenance records. 
  • Information from Health & Safety committee -­Minutes of Meetings. 
  • Plant registers.
  • Information from health & safety advisor / officer / representative / company doctors.
  • Company’s safety library.
  • OH&S performance reports.
  • Reports of internal audits.
  • Information from joint inspections with safety representative.
  • Information from audits, surveys, sampling & tours.

The External Source of Information:
  • National laws & regulations.
  • Suppliers & Manufacturers – Material safety data sheet (MSDS) from manufacturers and equipment manuals form suppliers.
  • Government Enforcing Authority publications such as codes of practice and guidance notes.
  • National / International standards. E.g.: ILO, ISO, BSI, OHSA etc…
  • Information from local safety groups.
  • Information from trade associations.
  • Information from journals and magazines.
  • Information from Consultants & Specialists.E.g.: Loss prevention Association, IIRSM, IOSH, BSC, CII, etc…
  • Workers insurance companies & unions.E.g.: AIG Insurance, ICICI Insurance, Life Insurance Company of India.
  • Internet.
