Hazards to Pedestrians

The common hazards & risks to the pedestrians are slips, trips, and falls

A slip occurs due to loss of friction between the foot and the walking surface is reduced below that needed for traction. In general, slips are caused by something reducing the friction of a surface,
E.g. a liquid, grease or a low – friction material, e.g. cloth or a mat on the floor.

A trip is caused during motion when the body is continuously in motion and the foot is suddenly stopped. The foot is then stumbled and the person trips and falls down. Trips are generally caused by an obstruction.
E.g.: torn carpet, cables or materials left on the floor.

Falls are often the result of losing balance as a result of a slip or trip.

  • Falls from a height.
  • Stuck against a fixed or stationary object.
  • Collision with moving vehicles.
  • Struck by moving, flying or falling objects.
